Choir Assignment: Eurovision Final, and Khan Academy
Choir Students,
I hope you're all staying safe, productive, and occupied at home. Thanks to those who completed last week's listening assignment! I enjoyed the feedback that I got from the class, both about the good and the bad.
Here are a few highlights:
About Malta: "It was powerful, inspirational, and hit all the right notes."
About France: "I really enjoyed how they incorporated not only their language, but also English. And to add into the mix, the artists tone was very nice to listen to and the simplicity of his video did nothing but compliment what he had to offer."
About Sweden: "It had a fun beat to it and made me want to dance!" also " It has a lot of power and potential, and you just want to sing with them."
Of the songs that people didn't like, Russia appears to be the most disliked. Nobody had a positive thing to say about it... And I don't blame you. Its pretty weird.
My personal Top 5 songs were:
1. Italy
2. Sweden
3. France
4. Austria
5. Denmark
Even getting to that was hard for me. Cutting out Spain, Malta, and some others, to make that list, was a tough choice.
Here's the class' Top 4 songs, which you get to vote on this week:

Just as well, I'd like you to select one song that you really like or just can't stop listening to lately. Tell me what that song is, and I'll put it into a big class playlist to be posted next week.
NOW, for something different. I'm going to be assigning some basic music theory videos you each week, with Khan Academy. At the end of each week, I'll have a short quiz about the videos. I'll be assigning the first couple of videos this week!
You should be able to sign up with your school google email account, at this link: www.khanacademy.org/join/NDC6D5XH
If there are any problems, send me an email!

Ignore my work mood music, and the sounds of my dog chewing on toys....
6th- 8th Grade Choir Students:
Here are the four things I want you to do this week:
1. Keep working on the Miserere Mei
2. Practice 15-30 minutes a day!
3. Take a look at the new song (Recordings Below)
4. Practice in front of a mirror!
- Open Your Mouth
- Mouth is open north-south, not east-west
- Keep the corners of your mouth in
- Hands on the side of your face can help you get the feel for this!
When you are recording yourself, you are allowed to listen along to the recordings I've posted here. Follow the directions in the video. If you can, use two different devices! Record on your iPad, while listening with your phone/computer (with headphones in!).
Happy singing, and stay well!
